Hey Phoenixville!
January's wrapping up and it is still freezing out. But there is still a lot going on this weekend in Phoenixville. Seriously, there is a lot going on. Whether you're looking to cozy up indoors, catch some live music, try your hand at trivia night, or just do something good for our community, there's honestly something for everyone.
This week we've packed in everything from a legit Iron Chef style cook-off to karaoke nights, free music bingo, soulful concerts, and some really great indie films at the Colonial. Read on for the full scoop on what's happening, plus we're sharing a local spot you might've missed, shining a light on one of our favorite hangouts, and filling you in on what's new around town.
Worth Checking Out This Week
Steel Chef Phoenixville (HEART Campus) – Friday, Jan 30, 6-9 PM
Okay, this one's really cool. Think Iron Chef, but it's our neighbors going head-to-head in the kitchen. Local home cooks will battle it out in three timed rounds using mystery ingredients, and a panel of local celebrity judges picks the winner. All the proceeds go to Ann's Heart (they run the HEART kitchen and help so many people in our community) and Phoenixville Area Community Services. You'll get to enjoy some great appetizers, cheer for your favorite cook, and just soak up that community vibe we all love about this town.
Killer Karaoke & Happy Hour – Friday, Jan 30
Ready to kick off your weekend? Head to Fun Dungeon Brewcade & Billiards (119 S Main St) for happy hour from 5-7 PM. Half priced drafts and drink specials. Then at 8 PM, it's karaoke time (21+ only). Your $15 admission gets you unlimited arcade play, pool, darts, and skee ball. It's the perfect combo of nostalgia and good times, belting out those '80s and '90s classics with a local brew in hand.
Music Bingo at Twelve78 Brewing – Friday, Jan 30, 6:30 PM
Grab your crew and head over to Twelve78 Brewing Co. for music bingo. It's totally free to play, just use your phone as your bingo card while your favorite songs fill the taproom. Sing along, sip on some fresh brews, and compete for prizes. The staff here is super welcoming (especially if it's your first time), and you can bring your own food or grab something from the food trucks. Games usually start around 6:30 and wrap up by 8:30.
More Local Highlights
Love You To: A Beatles Tribute – Saturday, Jan 31 (doors 5 PM, music 7 PM)
Beatles fans, this one's for you. Head to Steel City Coffeehouse & Brewery to hear Cliff Hillis, Bret Tobias, Krista Umile, and friends perform the Fab Four's greatest hits. Doors open at 5 PM for a pre-show happy hour with half-priced pints, snacks, and Beatles trivia (perfect excuse to show off your knowledge). The show kicks off at 7 PM in their cozy listening room—think acoustic guitar versions of "Hey Jude," "Come Together," and some deeper cuts like "Love You To." This tribute always sells out, so don't sleep on tickets.
Funk's Way – Saturday, Jan 31 (doors 6 PM, show 7:30 PM)
If you'd rather dance than sing along, get yourself to Water Tower Live. Funk's Way is a nine-piece funk and soul band, complete with horns and a rhythm section that'll have you moving whether you want to or not. Sly Fox beer specials start at 6 PM, and the show kicks off at 7:30. The Water Tower's got that intimate vibe with professional sound and lighting, balcony seating, and full bars to keep the good times rolling.
Films at The Colonial Theatre – Jan 30 – Feb 1
More of a movie person? The Colonial's got you covered. Check out new releases like Hamnet (inspired by Shakespeare's family life) or the spy thriller The Secret Agent. Looking for something lighter? Sentimental Value might be your jam. Sunday's got special screenings too—the baseball comedy The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings and the classic romance Casablanca. With those gorgeous art deco interiors and the awesome concession stand, the Colonial's perfect for a rainy afternoon or date night.
RUNegades Sunday bRUNch – Sunday mornings, 8:30 AM
Lace up those sneakers and join the RUNegades running club every Sunday morning. They meet outside Steel City Coffeehouse at 8:30 AM for a group run around town. All paces and abilities are welcome. No judgment here. Afterward, everyone circles back to Steel City for coffee, brunch, and just hanging out. It's a great way to meet neighbors, get your blood pumping, and support a local spot all at once.
Hidden Gem
Root Down Brewing Company
If you haven't been to Root Down yet, you're missing out. This place takes Phoenixville's industrial past and turns it into something really special. It's housed in the old Superior Beverage Co. warehouse, so you've got exposed brick, restored hardwood floors, and even the original elevator. There's a massive 60-foot bar that anchors the main room, plus big picture windows where you can watch the brewers do their thing.
Out back, there's a room with communal tables and a bunch of big screens (plus a projector for movie nights). The kitchen cranks out solid craft beer-friendly food with vegan options, and the tap list is always changing. You might find hazy IPAs, crisp pilsners, or inventive sours depending on the day.
They're open Monday-Thursday 4-10 PM, Friday-Saturday noon-11 PM, and Sunday noon-8 PM. Whether you're sampling a flight, meeting friends for trivia, or just admiring the renovation work, Root Down really shows what Phoenixville does best, taking old spaces and giving them new life.
Around Town
Phoenixville Farmers Market
Our year round market sets up under the Gay Street bridge along French Creek every Saturday. During winter (January through March), it runs on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 10 AM-noon. Come browse local produce, baked goods, cheeses, and handmade crafts.
New deli on Nutt Road
Our Deli & Cafe opened a second location at 498 Nutt Road back in December. It's family-owned and serves up comfort food—breakfasts, burgers, salads, and classic hoagies on the east side of town. Stop in for a cheesesteak, weekend brunch, or grab one of their homemade cannolis.
Road & weather alerts
Heads up recent snowstorms have meant extra snow removal on Main Street, and there's been a broken water main on Nutt Road causing lane closures. Keep an eye on the borough's website and social media for updates and any parking restrictions.
Fun Phoenixville Headline From 100 Years Ago
Hen Lays Giant Egg; Amazes Neighbors
On February 5th 1926, the Daily Republican reported that a Phoenixville farmer's hen laid a remarkably large egg measuring 7.5 inches around. Neighbors dropped by to see the oddity, which the proud farmer displayed in a local storefront window.
